TEMPO.CO, Doha - Women's double tennis player Peng Shuai of China is going to top the new list of the world's women's double rank which will be launched next Monday. Peng becomes the first ever Chinese player who is able to be the world's number one.
Peng, together with Taiwan's Hsieh Su-Wei, won the opening match against Buryachok/Vitalia Diathenko (Ukraine/Russia) 6-4, 6-2 in the Qatar Total Open last Thursday.
"After the match, my coach came to me and was like: 'Congratulations!' and 'You're No.1!' and I was like: 'Really, are you sure about that?' And he was like: 'Yes, I'm sure!'," said Peng as quoted by WTA Tennis.
"This was a goal for me this year. At the end of last year we were very close to Errani and Vinci, and in Australia we had a big chance but we didn't make it. But I'm so happy I made it here in Doha," the new world number one added.
