Gita Delivers Suggestions to New Trade Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan urged his successor Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi, to implement the Trade Regulation that had just been passed by the House of Representatives. Gita expected Lufthi to be actively engaged in international trade diplomacy, especially in issues related policies for agriculture and poor countries established by the World Trade Organization conference in Bali last December.
"The new Trade Regulation is important. I've talked to Lutfi about that," Gita said on Friday, February 14, 2014.
According to Gita, the new Trade Regulation must be accompanied with implementing regulations issued by the Trade Minister. Therefore, he hoped that Lutfi will be able to issue necessary supporting regulations to effectively improve national economy.
Gita also stressed the importance of continuous diplomacy with the WTO. Some policies that need special attention are policy packages for agriculture and poor countries.
Gita Wirjawan officially resigned from the Second United Indonesia Cabinet on February 1, 2014. Gita had submitted his resignation letter three times since October 2013. He decided to resign to avoid a conflict of interest as he participates in Democratic Party presidential candidate convention.
