TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian Ombudsman Danang Girindrawardana, said that Statistics Indonesia (BPS) regional offices are prone to data manipulation due to lack of monitoring.
According to Danang, data manipulation can be categorized as a crime.
"Crime in a form of data could cause disturbance in development strategy," he said yesterday.
Several data that are prone to manipulation include energy sufficiency, food, livestock, and agriculture. Data error may be caused by the lack of supervision that makes sampling process not optimal.
Responding to the statement, BPS Chief Suryamin, said that survey process conducted by his institution has been monitored tightly to the district-level. However, he did not deny the fact that not all regions have adequate supervision.
