Sriwijaya Air to Raise Ticket Prices

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sriwijaya Air Senior Manager Corporate Communication Agus Soedjono stated that Sriwijaya Air will follow the government regulation on surcharge rate. "We really appreciate that," he told Tempo on Monday.
According to Agus, the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) has asked for surcharge rate adjustment because of dollar exchange rate rising over Rp12,000, far from upper limit of benchmark rate which is Rp10,000 per US dollar.
The weakening rupiah and increase in price of avtur caused operational cost to rise 30 percent. Surcharge rate adjustment, Agus said, could reduce cost temporarily. "We will re-evaluate if rupiah appreciates," he said.
Agus explained that it is difficult to calculate the impact of the increase in surcharge rate toward the price of ticket that has to be paid by passengers, because this component is not included in the ticket's basic fare. "It's difficult to calculate the percentage because the ticket price range itself is wide," he uttered.
