TEMPO.CO, Kediri - Mount Kelud in Blitar and Kediri, East Java, started to show increased seismic-volcanic activity. In the last six hours, mount Kelud has caused 15 volcanic quakes and discharged sulfur gas.
Chief of Kelud Observation Post Khoirul Huda, stated that generally, the mountain's volcanic activity has not shown any significant increase.
"[However] the intensity tends to increase," said Khoirul.
Mount Kelud is now declared to be in alert status with no exact estimation on when the mountain's volcanic activity will cease. The Center for Volcanic and Geological Disaster Mitigation responded by installing several monitoring devices that help record the volcanic activity once every six hours. Intensity of Mount Kelud volcanic activity will later define its status.
