TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Djaringan Musang Lovers or Civet Lovers Network (Djamal) is the biggest Musang (Asian palm civet or Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) lovers community in Indonesia. The community, established in late 2011, has become the home for musang lovers to gather and share information about their pets.
Civet-or Luwak in Indonesian- is a semi-aquatic animals largely found in tropical forest. Its habitation is in the forest nearby the water sources but some of them also live around residents' settlements. More and more people are starting to keep the nocturnal animal as a pet.
"It is easy to take care of. It can be fed with almost anything. Fruits, meats, rice, or cat food," said Nurdin, 24.
Nurdin has been keeping a civet in the past two years. He said that he has collected seven civets of pandan, rase and moon race. He even makes special room for three of them. "The aroma would not be so annoying when we clean the dumps. Cleaned two times a day. For outdoor cage, once-a-day cleaning is enough," he added.
