TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Problems have arisen following the operation of Halim Perdanakusuma airport in East Jakarta on Friday, January 10, 2014. Delay of flight schedules, analysis study of the environmental effects, and traffic congestions around the airport are some of those problems that are likely to arise.
Spokesman of the Transportation Ministry Bambang S. Ervan said that the ministry could not guarantee that the airport was free from delays. He said that the causes of the delays were not merely technical problems of the carriers but also weather factors. "Even a modern airport like Singapore's Changi airport sometimes has delayed schedules problems," Bambang said.
According to him, the issue of flight delay was being investigated. "We're currently finalizing (the investigation). In one month, the regulation of the Transportation Minister will be issued. All the parties that cause delay will receive fines," he said.
Besides flight delay, another problem that overshadows the operation of the new airport is the congestion of traffic leading to the airport.
