TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central government has provided renovation aid to 200 houses of underprivileged residents around Gus Dur Cemetery at Tebuireng Islamic Boarding House, Tebuireng, Cukir Village, Jombang district, East Java. The renovation aids for houses that are unfit for habitation is part of the Public Housing Ministry’s program. The ministry indeed has the renovation program implemented around the Presidential Palace and former Indonesian Presidents’ houses, including Gus Dur.
One of the residents who received the aid, Tuminah, admitted she had received assistance from the program. She said she had received the assistance of Rp7.5 million, which was for building materials. Her house was initially of soil floor and walls made of woven bamboo, it is presently ceramic floor and concrete brick walls.
To reporters, the Public Housing Ministry’s Non-Governmental Housing Department Deputy, Jamil Ansari said the program was not merely to renovate houses that were unfit for habitation. “Residents’ houses that do not have washing and toilet facilities would also receive Rp1 million aids each,” he said. Jamil explained that in Indonesia there were approximately 225 thousand unliveable houses that have been provided with the aid program.
