TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Going back in action after 4 months of complete rest due to an injury has made former Women’s World Tennis Champion Maria Sharapova struggle to gain point during a match against French tennis player Caroline Garcia in the Brisbane International Tournament 2014 last Tuesday.
With hard work and perseverance, Sharapova, currently ranked as number 4 among tennis players in the world, managed to topple Garcia's resistance with a score of 6-3 and 6-0.
"I haven't been playing for 4 months. This is a huge step for me to be playing here," she said.
Previously, the injury had forced Sharapova to quit the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament early in the season. So far, Sharapova has won 4 grand slam tournaments. The tournament she is currently participating in Brisbane is the prelude towards the Australian Open Grand Slam 2014, which will be held in Melbourne on January 13 to January 27, 2014.
