TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of National Commission of Child Protection Arist Merdeka Sirait has condemned the start-from-Twitter quarrel between lawyer Farhat Abbas and musician Ahmad Dhani as it culminates in a bizzare yet most anticipated amateur boxing event. He said the two men's agreeing the boxing notion could not, by any means, be justified. "They can face charges of violating Child Protection Law," he told Tempo.
Previously, the banter between Farhat Abbas and Ahmad Dhani has escalated quickly, resulting in a boxing challenge from Dhani's son. Ahmad Dhani, instead of calming the storm, supported his son to take on Farhat in a boxing ring, surprisingly registering such match to Jakarta Boxing Association.
Arist said both Farhat and Dhani, as a parent, should have been able to restrain their temper, as the boxing match can facilitate child violation. He later emphasized that boxing as sport should have the spirit of competitiveness and sportsmanship, instead of raging vengeance. Therefore, he suggested both Farhat and Dhani should find a non-violent solvency, as legal charges of child molestation peeks to impose.
