TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Police Headquarters and Customs and Excise office on Monday managed to uncover three types of new narcotics being distributed in the nation. Nine people were apprehended in the case.
The police confiscated 400 sheets of synthetic LSD (Smiles), 14 tablets of methylone, and 512 grams of kratom. These three new narcotics have already been categorized as illegal drugs by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, said National Police spokesman Arman Depari.
However, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) said these three new types of drugs have not been included in the list of illegal drugs according to Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics.
There are currently 21 new types of narcotics discovered in Indonesia containing various substances derived from plants, chemicals, some of which are also synthetic drugs, BNN spokesman Sumirat Dwiyanto told Tempo.
The list of these new drug types has been submitted to the Law and Human Rights Ministry to be included in the amendment of the law on narcotics.
