Foreigners Control 70% State Assets

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prof. Dr. Pratikno, Rector of the Gajah Mada University (UGM), said that, as of today foreign countries control 70 to 80 percent of Indonesia's state assets.
"The condition of our nation is now alarming; without the support and policies by all elements of the nation, all of our assets will gradually fall into the hands of foreigners," he said in a National Seminar held the UGM Alumni Family (Kagama) in Kendari, on Saturday, as quoted by antaranews.com.
According to Pratikno, foreigners have control over 50 percent of state assets in the banking sector. The same condition applies in other sectors as well such as oil-gas and coal sectors (70-75 percent) and the telecommunication sector (some 70 percent). The worst, he said, is in the gold and copper mining sector, where 80-85 percent of the assets are controlled by foreign businesses.
"… We must be careful not to let all of our assets be dominated foreign countries," he asserted.
To secure assets that have not been controlled by foreign countries, Indonesia needs to be cautious in making policies and breakthroughs.
