TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta labors forum will stage a large-scale demonstration to demand an increase in labor's wage to Rp3.7 million in front of Jakarta Governor and Legislative Council (DPRD) office today. In the agenda on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, the forum also planned to negotiate with Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo.

"Today, we will go on a national strike in front of Jakarta and DPRD office. We demand the commitment of the Deputy Governor to realize the demand to increase labor's wage to Rp3.7 million. Ahok has promised that minimum wage in Jakarta will be Rp4 million," Chief of Jakarta Labors Forum, Muhamad Toha, said in a press conference on Tuesday, October 29, 2013.

However, Toha continued, if the demand is too difficult to be fulfilled, his side is ready to negotiate on decent living standards (KHL) for Rp2,767,321. The KHL is still added with inflation, economic growth, and productivity. According to Toha, demonstration will be also staged in other regions such as Bekasi, Purwakarta, and Jember.

Governor Joko Widodo has responded by saying that the labors are quite rational in demanding the increase of their minimum wage (UMP). Jakarta's UMP right now is Rp2.2 million, while labors demand the increase to Rp3.7 million next year.

Even so, Jokowi admitted giving KHL issue to the Wage Council. This KHL will be the basis to determine UMP. The Wage Council has decided the KHL in 2013 is Rp2.299 million, up from two years ago which was Rp1.9 million.
