TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker Eva Kusuma Sundari, a member of the House’s Commission III overseeing legal affairs, said the commission proposed three candidates of Deputy Attorney General to President Yudhoyono last month.
Eva said she could not recall all three names, but Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Andhi Nirwanto was among them. She said she had yet to hear from the State Secretariat ever since the House submitted the names. “I don’t know what happens to those names there,” Eva told Tempo on Thursday, October 24, 2013.
Eva said replacing Deputy Attorney General was not a difficult task, adding that the remaining vacant position of the Deputy Attorney General would tarnish the images of Attorney General Basrief Arief and the president. “People will say, ‘they can’t even do this simple thing,’” Eva said.
The Deputy Attorney General position has been empty since July 2, 2013 as Deputy Attorney General Darmono entered retirement on July 1, 2013. Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Andhi Nirwanto has been rumored to be the strongest candidate to fill the position, allowing for his seniority.
