TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday arrested former youth and sports minister Andi Alifian Mallarangeng for his alleged involvement in the Hambalang Sports Center corruption case. Andi, who was declared a suspect in December last year, was apprehended after a six-hour interrogation.
In light of this recent development, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has called on the KPK to look further into the involvement of others suspected to have played a role in the Rp1.2 trillion graft case. After Andi’s arrest, the anti-graft commission must investigate the roles of government officials, businessmen and lawmakers, said ICW observer Abdullah Dahlan.
"The KPK has not uncovered the roles of the 15 Senayan politicians who approved of the Hambalang budget," he said. Previously, an audit report released by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) mentioned 15 lawmakers were involved in the case.
The KPK spokesman said he did not know who the KPK will apprehend next. He also could not confirm when former Democrat Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum, also a suspect in this matter, will be questioned.
