TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Archery Association (PP Perpani) will send five of its athletes to participate in the World Archery Youth Championship in Wuxi, China, on October 13 to October 20. Perpani targets Diananda Choirunisa to grab a ticket to the Youth Olympic Games which will be held next year in Nanjing, China.
The five athletes are Titik Kusumawardhani (women recurve category), Erwina Safitri (women recurve category), Diananda (women recurve category), Catur Wuri Adi Nugroho (men compound category), and Della Adisty Handayani (women compund category).
"There are no winning targets for the athletes except for Diananda who has to win a ticket to the Youth Olympic Game," said coach Daniel Lumalessil to Tempo, during the coaching sessions at Gelora Bung karno, Jakarta yesterday.
However, Della and Titik have their own target on the competition. "My target is to improve my previous score," said Della after the coaching session. Titik revealed similar target.
In addition to the World Archery Youth Competition, Perpani also programmed its 15 athletes to compete in the 18th Asian Archery Championship where they will be able to map the power of SEA Games participating countries.
Daniel said trial matches are important to build up athletes' mentality. "When they are able to overcome nervousness and perform confidently, all the techniques will be useful during the competition," said Daniel.
