TEMPO.CO, Bogor – Deputy Minister of Trade Bayu Krisnamurthi, asserted that soybean price will remainson a considerably high level. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister predicted that the price will continue to rise due to low soybean production in the United States.
The influence of US-produced soybean on the price of soybean in Indonesia stems from high depedency of tofu and tempeh producers on imported soybean.
"The current high price of soybean is influenced by the weakening rupiah exchange rate," he said during an event at Bogor Agricultural Institute on Tuesday, September 17.
Bayu explained that tofu and tempeh producers can actually reduce their dependency on US-produced soybean by importing soybean from Brazil.
"I visited Brazil some time ago and met entrepreneurs whom offered to provide soybean supply regardless of the amount," he said.
