TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Puan Maharani, said that PDI-P has set a target of 27.02 percent of votes or approximately 152 seats in the House of Representatives for the 2014 election. "This target is based on careful calculation and after considering various important variables," she said.
PDI-P Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri stated that the Party must be able to nominate its own president and vice president candidates. "I've felt the pain of having to search for additional votes from other parties to fulfill an obligation," Megawati said in her closing speech at the PDI-P National Meeting on Sunday, September 8.
Despite the Party's optimism, researcher of Indonesian Survey Institute Adjie Al Faraby, claimed that a target 27 percent votes is too high. Adjie predicted that PDIP will gain 25 percents votes at most. "Competition with the Functional Group party and the Democratic Party is still tight," he added.
