Dino Patti Djalal to be BKPM Chief

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chris Kanter, deputy chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) on International Trade, said he had heard of the rumors on the appointment of Indonesian Ambassador to the US Dino Patti Djalal as the next Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief.

If the rumors were true, Chris said Dino was the right person to spearhead the BKPM given his strong ties with investors and markets.

“As the Indonesian Ambassador to the US, Dino has extensive experiences in investments, markets and funds,” Chris told Tempo on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Chris, who claimed to be close to the ambassador, said he was confident in Dino’s skills and capabilities, saying Dino had always been innovative and creative in carrying out his duties. “Dino has a strong drive. He always thinks out of the box and acts out of the box,” he said.

Chris, a businessman, hoped Dino as the new chief of BKPM would concoct new breakthroughs in the investment world. He added one of the issues requiring attention in the current investment affairs was on licensing.

“BKPM can coordinate with the related ministries to boost investment,” he said.

Rumor has it the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Dino Patti Djalal, will be the next BKPM chief replacing Chatib Basri, who is also the Finance Minister.
