TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Commission of the House of Representatives welcomes the Indonesian National Army initiative to establish an Anti-terror Special Team. "We fully support the initiative," said Max Sopacua, a member of the House's Defense Commission.
The initiative was proposed by General Moeldoko shortly after he was appointed as the Commander of the Indonesian National Army last week. The General explained that the Army's counter-terrorism team will be similar to the Police's Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment 88 (Densus 88). However, Moeldoko is yet to specify whether or not the team will include all sectors namely the Army, Naval Army, and the Air Force.
Max supported the idea by mentioning that terrorism has become a national threat. "[The establishment of the team] will not spend much budget as it is already allocated," he said.
He also added that the Army's counter-terrorist squad will not contradict the authority of the Police's Densus 88."The two institutions will cooperate, synergizing each other," Max conlcuded.
