TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several villages in Grobogan regency, Central Java is suffering from drought. The 68 villages are located in Pulaukulon districts (13 villages), Kradenan (6 villages), Wirosari (6 villages), Toroh (7 villages), Purwodadi (3 villages), Tawangharjo (10 villages), Gabus (14 villages), Ngaringan (1 village) and Geyer (10 villages). “The residents had already request for clean water dropping,” said Agus Sulaksono, Chief on duty of Grobogan Board of Disaster Management on Thursday, August 29, 2013.
According to Agus, the requests are increasing each day since wells and rivers are already dry. "But the status is still an 'alert state' for the drought," he said. The fund of Rp450 million equal to 1,900 tanks of clean water is budgeted by the Board. A water supplier agency PDAM Purwa Thirta Dharma will be engaged to supply the water.
"We are also expecting assistance from Central Java Region Coordination Board," said Agus.
Eventhough the drought is less severe than the one happened last year, people are still lining up for the water supplied in a tank by PDAM. "The water dropping is really helpful. I used the water for cooking and drinking," said Urip, a resident of Tambirejo village, Toroh district.
