TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Littering can soon make news headlines in Jakarta, as Regional Regulation on Garbage Management impose a relatively expensive fine against it.
"Violators will be given a fine of Rp500,000," said Wiriyatmoko, the administrator of Jakarta regional secretary. He mentioned that the regulation aims to solve garbage problems in the Capital. It also emphasizes that the community should also be responsible and involved when it comes to garbage management.
The regulation, imposing deterrent effect, will begin its socialization on the first week of September. Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo said in order to help socializing the no-littering regulation, the city administration is cooperating with a national band, Slank. "They are willing to make a jingle and publication," said Jokowi.
In reverse, the government will also provide incentive for the community that succeeds to manage garbage. The incentives can vary from retribution cut for society to permit issuance for company.
