TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Freeport Indonesia committed to supply 2.5 million tonnes of concentrate to domestic mineral processing and purifying factory (smelter). Rozik B. Sutjipto, Freeport CEO, mentioned that both investors and smelter entrepreneurs must cooperate to support the mineral downstreaming program. "We require update on factory construction projects so that supply and demand can be match in time," he said.
Taufik Sastrawinata, Indovasi CEO, said to be glad hearing Freeport's commitment. Despite being a newcomer in the business, Indovasi ensured that it is capable of developing mineral downstreaming program worth US$1.5 billion of investment. Taufik said that there are two sites in option to build 200,000 tonnes of copper cathode, in Gresik and Tuban.
Natsir Mansyur, Indosmelt CEO, also similarly appreciated Freeport's commitment, saying that he requires 500,000 tonnes concentrate to produce 100,000 copper cathode. Indosmelt Smelter will take the site on Maros, South Sumatra, with total investment of US$1.5 billion. It is projected to start operating by 2017.
