TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Despicable Me 2 has been playing for two days in Indonesian cinemas. However, only a few people know that the director, Pierre Coffin, is an Indonesian descent.
Pierre Coffin was born on November 1, 1967. He is the son of an Indonesian feminist novelist, Nurhayati Srihardini Siti Nukatin, known as NH Dini and Yves Coffin, a French diplomat. Due to his father’s profession, he had to move from one country to another, starting from Japan, France, the United States, and others. NH Dini and Yves Coffin were divorced in 1984, which later made her moved back to Indonesia, while Coffin and his father stayed in France.
Pierre's career in Hollywood started when he worked for Amblimation in London. He got the chance to work in Steven Spielberg’s movie, "We’re Back! A Dinousaur’s Story" in 1993. He gained his fame when directing "Despicable Me" with Chris Renaoud. The first sequel of the movie "Despicable Me" was released in 2010.
