TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 150 outsourcing workers from Jabodetabek train stations were dismissed after holding a protest last Tuesday. They were fired by their contracting companies that recruited them. "Today, those workers will receive their termination letter," said Acril Prasetyo, the coordinator of Jabodetabek Train Worker Association (SPKAJ), on Friday, June 28.
Acril requested that his colleagues could be recruited again. He claimed that several workers already received intimidation on their phones via text messages during the protest. "The threat was being fired," he said.
Last Tuesday, the workers were protesting at PT KCJ office at Juanda station. They were porters, counter officers, information officers, administration staffs and security guards. They demanded their status to be permanent employees of PT KCJ.
To mediate this problem, he continued, the Employment Commission of the Parliament would invite the SPKAJ, the contracting companies, and PT KCJ for discussing the matter. "If there is no solution on July 1, we will go on strike on the spot," he said.
