TEMPO.CO, London - New study found that one of ten women in England had encountered sexual harassment during vacation. The polling on 6,000 tourists shows there are 8.6 percent reports on sexual harassment cases. Based on the survey in Crete, Cyprus, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, 1.5 percent of respondents even reported of being raped. The study also found one of 15 men encountered sexual harassment during vacations.
Daily Mail reported the researchers stated their consideration on the impact of alcohol and drug abuse used during vacations in night clubs or other tourist destinations. This is considered the trigger of the increasing sexual activity and sexual attacks like rapes.
The result of the research is published in the journal of Archives of Sexual Behavior chaired by Dr Amador Calafat, the researcher from European Institute of Prevention Study (Irefea).
Irefea studies violence, driving behaviors, sexual behaviors, and drug and alcohol abuse. The result of the research is also used to form a European Security Standards for clubs and bars. The research is conducted on British and Germany tourists since they are frequent visitors of south Europe.
