TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four conserved scaled turtles were released to the National Sea Park at Pramuka Island, one of the islands in the Thousand Islands archipelago earlier today. The turtles were previously preserved in SeaWorld for eight years.
Prior to its release, the turtles were tagged to mark their movement and to prevent them from being captured. Scaled turtles are one out of seven protected turtle species.
Novianto Bambang W, Natural Diversity Conservation Director at the Forestry Ministry, claimed that the release was meant to allow the turtles to perform natural reproduction and was a part of a more extensive research.
