TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) said that the increase of public transportation tariff suggested by the government was insufficient. The 40,7 percent increase will only cover the basic daily operational cost.
"The number will not be able to reach break event point in a year," Secretary of DKI Jakarta Organda, Jember Waluyo, told Tempo on Wednesday. If the government fails to fulfill Organda's request, he said that the organization would not be able to improve the quality of the vehicles.
According to Organda's calculation, the tariff of small bus should increase from Rp2,500 to Rp3,500, medium bus from Rp2,000 to Rp3,000, and big regular bus from Rp2,000 to Rp5,000.
"While our biggest expense is on fuel, almost 60 percent of the tariff. So the price increase proposed by the government will only cover operational costs."
The Jakarta administration's proposal which was handed to the Jakarta Legislative Council this morning, suggested the tariff of small bus to increase from Rp2,000 to Rp3,000, medium bus from Rp2,000 to Rp3,000, and big regular bus from Rp2,000 to Rp3,000.
