TEMPO.CO, Nusa Dua - Indonesia, represented by Foreign Ministry’s Director General for America and Europe, Dian Triansyah, expressed its high appreciation to Uruguay for its help in developing national sports, especially soccer, during the 6th Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) held in Bali, Thursday, June 13.

There are currently 47 students aged 13 to 14 taking a four-year soccer studies program in Uruguay.

Aside from that, the two nations will also increase the bilateral relationship by signing the visa-free agreement for diplomatic service passport holders or Indonesian and Uruguay government officials traveling on official government trips. The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding regarding bilateral consultations between the Indonesian and Uruguay foreign ministries.

Before the agreements were signed, Indonesia and Uruguay held a meeting discussing efforts to increase bilateral relationships in politics, trade and investments, and social culture. They agreed to encourage the connectivity of human resources and infrastructures between the two nations.

Indonesia and Uruguay have had good diplomatic relations since it was established in 1965. Trade between the two nations revealed a positive trend with a 48.82 percent increase in the last five years.
