TEMPO.CO, Banten – State-owned cement company Semen Indonesia and state-owned steel manufacturer Krakatau Steel have worked together to build new plants that will produce slag powder. Semen Indonesia CEO Dwi Soetjipto said the establishment of the joint effort was marked by the signing of an MoU on Monday, June 10.
"The joint venture will process Krakatau Steel's byproducts of granulated slag to slag powder or ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). The cooperation is an articulated synergy between State-Owned Enterprises [SOEs] which accommodate each other to create an added value for each participating company," said Dwi in a press release.
Dwi explained that slag is a byproduct of iron and steel smelting which comes in granulated form. Slag contains elements needed by the cement industry in the process of making cement. "We hope to secure slag supply for the cement industry through this cooperation," Dwi added.
