Garuda Indonesia Open Medan-Penang Route

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national carrier Garuda Indonesia today officially opened a new route serving Medan-Penang-Medan. The new route was officially launched by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guang Eng and Garuda Indonesian Asia Region VP Nicodemus Lampe at Gate AC, Penang International airport.
Nicedemus Lampe said that the opening of the new route was part of the development program to open new routes. "The new route is expected to give easier access for passengers from Penang to Medan or nearby cities, and vice versa," said Nicodemus in his press release, Saturday, June 1, 2013.
Garuda Indonesia serves Medan-Penang-Medan route two times daily by using Bombardier CRJ1000 planes, which can accommodate 96 passengers. Executive class can accommodate 12 passengers and Economy class can accommodate 84 passengers.
Lim Guang Eng welcomes the new route, saying that passenger mobility between Medan and Penang is quite high. Aside from business and tourism trips, many passengers from Medan go to Penang for education and medical treatment purposes. "The new route will certainly boost the growth of business and trade in the region," he said.
