TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Metro Jaya Police plans to implement an integrated security alarm system, or a panic button, in areas prone to thievery in Jakarta. Some of these areas include locations consisting of gold or jewelry stores, banks, and pawn shops.
Grand Comr. Rikwanto, Metro Jaya Police spokesman, asserted that these panic buttons, not only will alert the police of robberies, but they may also be used as a system to alert the police of fires or other major incidents.
Last Monday, Chief of East Jakarta Police Department, Grand Comr. Mulyadi Kaharni promised that the police will take a quick action when alerted by the panic button. "When you press the panic button, a signal will immediately alert the local police station," he said.
