TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta – Officials from the "17" Education Development Foundation will file a claim to the foundation's heir for tearing down SMA 17 to the police. SMA 17 is a high school building considered by the city as a cultural heritage.
A number of workers proceeded to tear down the building despite the police line that stretched around the building.
"Our students and teachers do not have a place for learning activities anymore," said SMA 17 Headmaster Suyadi.
The "17" Education Development Foundation Deputy Chairman, Gatot Praditya, stated that the school was a historical building. The Jalan Tentara Pelajar (Students Army Street), was named after the school.
"If this building is destroyed, the history of Jalan Tentara Pelajar will disappear along with it," said Gatot.
Daliso Rudiyanto, notary for the land, said that the building is obviously owned by the Foundation. The entire complex consisted of three units including a boarding house, the school's building, and the school's office.
"The heir who claimed to own the building forged the documents. The original one is at the foundation," he asserted.
