It was Rio Ferdinand, three minutes before the end, presenting a winning for Ferguson. "What an incredible farewell. I have tears in my eyes," said Ferguson. "The atmosphere is amazing and I am so proud to my supporters.” Before the game, Ferguson had a blasting chant from Old Trafford’s spectators and a line of honor from the players before making his way into the game.
Manchester made an impressive start when the Mexican Javier Hernandez put United ahead 7 minutes before the break. After the break, it was Swansea wonder, Michu, leveling the score. When the time was running out, senior defender Rio Ferdinand had the chance he did not waste, putting United 2-1 ahead of Swansea.
After the game, United’s players and Ferguson received medallions and Premier League trophy. "My retirement does not mean the end of my career in this club," said Ferguson who will be the club’s director.
