TEMPO.CO, Madrid - World's number one tennis player Serena Williams proceed to the Madrid Open quarter-finals along with world's number two Maria Sharapova.
Serena goes to the quarter-finals after defeating Maria Kirilenko by 6-3 and 6-1. The defending champion only needs around one hour to win against the 13th-seeded Russian.
"I just felt really relaxed today," said the 31-year-old American.
Serena will play against Spanish wild card Anabel Medina Garrigues. Serena, who is looking forward for her fourth title this year - the 50th title of her career in total, stated her opinion on Garrigues.
"She's definitely going to be really tough for me. She's a grinder on clay and she's Spanish. I know a lot fans really like her here," Serena stated.
On the other hand, Sharapova, the French Open Champion, will play against either wild card Daniela Hantuchova or Kaia Kanepi, after beating German player Sabine Lisicki by 6-2 7-5.
The Russian player promised to give her best performance.
"It took me many years to get to the level of where I am today, it certainly didn't happen overnight," she said.
