TEMPO.COBeijing – The World Health Organization admitted that the new H7N9 virus is currently the deadliest avian flu virus. Yesterday, the Chinese authority announced that since March 31 , 2013, 109 people have been infected by avian flu, resulting in 22 fatalities.

“The virus is obviously one of the deadliest viruses we have ever found,” said Keiji Fukuda, the WHO Assistant Director General for Health Security and Environment.

Since last week, Fukuda, along with his team, has investigated several parts of China that are suspected to be the sources of infection.

Keiji also said that this virus is much more contagious than the H5N1 variant, which had killed 360 people all over the world since 2003. The main possible sources of the virus are poultries like chicken, duck, and dove which are commonly found in marketplace. Until now, there has not been any indication of human to human infection.

Yesterday, the Chinese government announced that has claimed another life, a 86 year-old man who infected with the disease since April 17.
