TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Former Prosperity and Justice Party (PKS) president Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq was said to be bribed with Rp 40 billion (US$ 4,12 million) to facilitate beef import quota increase. The promise was allegedly given by the CEO of Indoguna Utama, a beef importer company, Maria Elisabeth Liman who expected her company to get a share of the additional quota.
“Maria Elisabeth Liman was willing to pay Rp 5,000 per kilogram or a total of Rp 40 billion,” said Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor Ronald F. Worotikan as he reads the indictments at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 24.
Ronald explained that Maria wanted her company to get an additional import quota of 5,000 tons from the Agriculture Ministry in the second semester of 2012. Maria sought help from businessman Elda Devianne Adiningrat who then introduced her to Ahmad Fathanah, Luthfi’s inner circle.
