Indonesia-Singapore to Cooperate in Investment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Singapore have agreed on economic bilateral cooperation. According to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa the neighboring countries will work on two areas of investment in the next few years.
The investment plans cover development in eastern Indonesia and water supply and sewage treatment projects. Indonesia and Singapore will also be investing outside Java, including in the developing industrial areas of Batam, Bintan and Karimun.
"Promotion of the areas will be augmented to attract investors from other countries like Taiwan and China," the minister said.
Hatta said that Indonesia and Singapore have also agreed on trade cooperation. Indonesia will increase the export of vegetables and fruits to Singapore by 20 percent per year. In the field of transport, the two countries have agreed to cooperate in air and sea transport.
For air transport, Indonesia and Singapore will conduct efficiency strategies to lower the cost of transportation for goods and people. For sea transport, the collaboration will be focused on travel cruises. Director General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transportation, Herry Bakti S. Gumay said that Indonesia will increase the number of flights to Singapore by 50 percent this year.
