TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The plan to tear down Lebak Bulus Stadium to be turn it into a depot station for the mass rapid transit (MRT) is awaiting Governor Joko Widodo's instruction. "Once we have the order to tear it down, we will demolish it," Head of Jakarta Youth and Sports Department Ratiyono said on Saturday.
Ratiyono said that as long as there is no instruction, the stadium can still be used as the headquarters of Jakarta's football club, the Persija.
The stadium needs to be sacrificed for the MRT depot that will stretch from Lebak Bulus to the Hotel Indonesia roundabout. To date, the work is still hampered by bureaucracy.
Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Udar Pristono said there has been no progress on the relocation of Lebak Bulus Terminal, which is located next to the stadium.
Meanwhile, Joko Widodo said the Lebak Bulus Stadium can be torn down. "That matter (the demolition of Lebak Bulus Stadium) is clear, no problem," he said yesterday. He said the demolition had been approved by Minister of Youth and Sports Roy Suryo.
Regarding the matter, the governor hopes the president director of PT MRT Jakarta, Dono Bustami, will work faster on the MRT project. He said he would not hesitate to "take off" Dono if he is unable to meet the target.
