Deep Tunnel Project a Go, says Joko Widodo
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo has responded to concerns raised by the Public Works Ministry, which is still calculating the total cost for the construction of a multipurpose deep tunnel. Joko has confirmed the project, aimed to overcome floods, will go ahead. “We’re carrying on,” said the governor at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, March 5. Joko said that after the project calculation is completed the project may begin this year. The Jakarta administration has included the deep tunnel project in its 2013-2017 Provincial Medium-Term Development. On Tuesday, the Water Resources Directorate General and the Public Works Ministry calculated the total cost for the construction of the 26-kilometer tunnel—the calculation yielded Rp26.5 trillion. On the other hand, Joko ‘only’ estimated Rp16.4 trillion. SUTJI DECILYA | TRI ARTINING PUTRI
