Religious Ministry Staffer Allegedly Involved in Hajj Funds Graft Scandal
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Religious Ministry Inspectorate General is conducting an internal investigation to trace the embezzlement of hajj funds from 2004 to 2012.
The internal investigation team has found indications that some Religious Ministry staffers might be involved in the scandal.
“We’re investigating some [staffers],” said Religious Ministry inspector general Muhammad Jasin at the Antigraft Commission (KPK) on Tuesday, March 5. Jasin visited the KPK to discuss the effort to foil graft practices in his ministry.
However, the former KPK deputy chief refused to specify the titles of the alleged graft perpetrators in his ministry. Jasin vowed to announce their identity once the ministry has managed to gather substantial evidence leading to their involvement. “Once we find indications of crime, we’ll report it immediately to law enforcement,” Jasin added.
