OJK Urged to Establish Sharia Finance Committee
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Financial Services Authority (OJK), which effectively began working this year, has been urged to establish a special committee for sharia finances to supervise and monitor sharia financial services. “[The committee] should be established this year. The Sharia Finance Committee is infallible,” said Islam Economist Association chairman Agustianto, contacted by Tempo on Thursday, January 3. Agus said the special committee is required not only for supervision but also for the development of the sharia finance industry. The industry is estimated to have strong future potential given that more than 90 percent of Indonesians are Muslims. In the sharia committee, a unit can be established according to sharia financing sectors such as a sharia banking committee, sharia capital market committee and other non-bank sharia financial-institutions.
