Government Breaking Contract by Purchasing Apache Helicopters, says DPR
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The House of Representatives’ (DPR) Defense Commission says the government will break a contract with aircraft manufacturing company Dirgantara Indonesia if it decides to purchase eight Apache helicopters from the United States. The Defense Ministry has already signed a contract with the state-owned enterprise. “We have agreed to provide 8 attack helicopters and 16 assault helicopters from Dirgantara Indonesia,” said Defense Commission deputy-chairman Tubagus Hasanudin, contacted by Tempo on Monday, September 24, 2012. The contract value for the two procurement projects, according Hasanudin, are worth US$90 million and US$170 million respectively. The DPR said the institution was not informed about the plan to buy eight AH 64 D Apache assault helicopters manufactured by Boeing. “So far, there is no coordination with the defense minister in regard to this matter [Apache purchase],” Hasanudin continued.
