Army Officers Face Court Over People Smuggling Charges
TEMPO Interactive, Madiun:The follow-up trial for five members of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) who have been indicted for smuggling immigrants was held at the Military Court III-13 in Madiun on Wednesday, September 19. The defendants are Second Sgt. Ilmun Abdul Said, Kornelius Nama, Corp. Kepala Karyadi, Assistant First Lt. Susiali, and Head Sgt. Khoirul Anam. The five officers were allegedly involved in the smuggling of hundreds of illegal immigrants from the Middle East to Australia through the waters off East Java, including from Popoh Beach, Tulungagung on December 17, 2011. The smuggling was exposed after the boat carrying the immigrants sunk in Prigi waters, Trenggalek. ISHOMUDDIN
