Shia Sampang Trial Will Be Moved
TEMPO Interactive, Surabaya:The East Java High Court has appointed four prosecutors to the case of Roisul Hukama, the main suspect in the attack on the Shia community in Karanggayam village, Sampang, East Java on August 26.
Assistant for General Crimes, Attorney General Office (AGO) of East Java, Fatkhur Rahman, said three of them were Darwati, Bambang and Rahmat Hari Basuki. One will be from the Sampang Prosecutors’ Office. "The prosecutors are ready," said Fatkhur Rahman, on September 10.
He added that on Friday investigators from the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, East Java Police, handed over the case files on Rois and another suspect named Solikin to local prosecutors.
With regard to the venue, Fatkhur cannot say for sure yet. Officials at the Regional Leadership Council (Muspida) Sampang have expressed reservations about holding the trial in Sampang.
Head of the East Java High Court case, Arminsyah, says that ideally the hearing of a case is done in the local area. But if that is not possible for security reasons, the AGO may move it to another place.
Therefore Arminsyah has reviewed several courts outside Sampang whose security can be guaranteed. One alternative, he says, is the Surabaya District Court. "If it’s safe in Surabaya, why not?" said Arminsyah.
Chief of Surabaya District Court Heru Pramono said that, in principle, he does not mind to try the Sampang case in his court. He is also ready to appoint top judges to that case. "Here, almost all judges are senior and experienced in leading trials," he added.
However, if it does indeed take place in Surabaya, Heru asks court security be well guaranteed. He does not want Rois’ trial to involve masses in large numbers because it can disrupt other hearings. "We have many other cases to try; they should not be distrupted by the masses," he added.
