Water Crisis in Bekasi
TEMPO Interactive, Bekasi:Head of the Regional Disaster Prevention (BPBD) for Bekasi, Agus Suparno, says a water crisis has hit 11 districts in Bekasi, threatening some 24,000 residents. Districts having difficulty obtaining water are Tarumajaya, Babalean, East Cikarang, Cibarusah, Bojong Mangu, Central Cikarang, and Muaragebong, South Cikarang, Serang Baru, Cabang Bungin, and Karangbahagia.
According to Agus, 18 villages are suffering the most. "The most alarming are the Cibarusah and Babelan districts," Agus told Tempo on September 4.
The villages with the most severe scarcity of water in Cibarusah are Ridogalih, Sirnajati, and Ridomanah. In Babelan Baru, it is Buni Bakti village. "Clean water is a priority for the four villages," he said.
Despite the lack of water, said Agus, the drought has not had a significant impact on the agricultural sector because harvest time has just finished.
To overcome the water crisis during the dry season in the future, says Agus, (BPBD) will make infiltration wells and water reservoirs in residential areas as well as providing clean water directly. "Those are some of the solutions that we’re thinking of," he said.
