Beef Prices Quadriple over Lebaran Holiday
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The price of meat continues to skyrocket unabated ahead of the holiday. Speaker of the Agriculture Commission at the House of Representatives, Herman Khaeron says that beef prices have risen fourfold.
In the past month, prices doubled before the fasting season. "On Lebaran of last year, beef prices were stable. This year prices are volatile and have gone up four times," he said after a working visit to the Serpong traditional market in Tangerang, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the price of rice this year is relatively stable in comparison to last year.
Herman’s working visit to the market was to determine the availability of basic goods and monitor price developments. He was accompanied by a team from the Agricultural Commission, including Ian Siagian, Jafar Nainggolan, Adi Sukemi, Mirati Dewaningsih and Budi Heryadi.
Head of food security at the Agriculture Ministry Achmad Suryana, says that based on monitoring at the traditional market in Tangerang, food supplies are sufficient. Aside from beef, the price of rice is stable while the price of frying oil has declined.
However, the price increase is still within reasonable limits. "The price is currently Rp80-82,000 per kilogram, from Rp75,000 per kilogram," said Suryana.
The high increase in beef price is due to increased demand. ROSALINA
