Pelindo to Start Work On Sorong Port by Year End
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:President director of PT Pelindo II or IPC, RJ Lino, says his company plans to develop Sorong Port in order to increase its capacity. "We plan to improve the capacity of Sorong Port starting the end of 2012," Lino said at the House of BNI on Wednesday.
Lino expects that through the development of Sorong harbor, the port capacity will be increased to 500,000 teus (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit). Currently, it is only 25,000 TEUs.
The project Pelindo II will require Rp1 trillion. Approximately 70 percent will come from loans and the rest from equity.
In order to work on the project, Pelindo II will not be alone. It will join a consortium consisting of PT Samudera Indonesia, Tbk, PT Meratus Line, PT Tempuran Emas, Tbk, PT Pelindo IV, PT Salam Pasifik Indonesia Lines, Inc. Tanto Intim Line, and PT Pembangunan Perumahan.
"The Sorong regency is also involved. We expect this project to be finished in two years," said Lino.
Lino has high hopes that Sorong Port, through this project, will be the center of distribution for eastern Indonesia in the framework of national connectivity. Lino is certain the project will be significant in accelerating the development of an integrated transport network as defined in the Master Plan MP3I.
"Going forward, the Sorong Port can consolidate the potential for containers heading to foreign countries such as Australia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor," said Lino. The tender for the Sorong project will be held next month. ISTMAN MP
