Celebrities Who Love the Coal Industry
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Someone who is more experienced than actress Julia Perez in dealing with the coal industry in Indonesia is singer Yuni Shara. She began in the mining business since 2009. At that time she and her ex husband, Hendry Siahaan, were partners in the National Electricity Company. The graduate of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Borobudur admits that she studied a lot about mining on her own back.
Three years ago Yuni joined with PT ECI (Light Energy Industry). She nowadays is one of the commissioners in the company owned by Honardy Boentario. Honardy is a mining businessman in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. They manage coal mining in the village of Bukuan, in Palaran, Samarinda, using the space of 1,900 hectares.
Every month Yuni takes the time to visit the mining location. “I have to pick up the earnings,” she said. Now Yuni herself wants to study more, directly from the field.
PT ECI was involved in an evaluation by the BLH (Environmental Agency) in Samarinda, January 2012 which was for businesses that require further development. To attain this, Yuni Shara and one her business colleagues planted one-thousand trees in anticipation of potential environmental degradation. The company also participated in other social programs like painting the SMP Bantuas Elementary School in Samarinda.
Yuni didn’t mention how much she has invested and how much profit she has received. According to her, the investment was necessary for the long-term future of her two children.
It’s not only these three celebrities who are involved in the mining business. From the entertainment world there is also Maia Estianty, actor and entrepreneur Richard Kevin, actor Tommy Kurniawan (the son-in-law of Fadel Muhamad), and Desy Fajarina (actress Manohara’s mother), who are also presumed to be involved in the black coal industry.
Yet, they still keep quiet about their efforts. “I don’t publicize it as I’m still learning. I’m shy,” said Desy while also smiling. That is similar to Maia, who via her assistant said her mining company isn’t ready to be clarified. “Later on there will definitely be time,” said Ella. *****
