Survey: Cigarette Consumption Higher Than Milk in West Java
TEMPO Interactive, Bandung:A survey by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in West Java shows that cigarettes are the highest consumed product in the area. "Cigarette consumption is the highest, while milk is the lowest," chief of the processing integration division of the BPS in West Java, M Unggul Sampurna, said in his office in Bandung on Monday. The food index was 103.85 in the survey with the highest consumption levels attributed to cigarettes with a figure of 113.9. The lowest consumed product was milk with a score of 86.61. Products ranked in the middle included beef, poultry, vegetables, noodles, tofu-tempeh, fish, fruits, sugar and eggs. The index for non-food consumption was 105.28, with the highest index for health at 116.64 and the lowest for fuel at 96.12. From the consumption index on food and non-food commodities; inflation variables; and household incomes, the BPS’ findings show that economic conditions in West Java are better than the previous period. This is reflected in the Tendency Index of West Java Consumers for the Second Quarter that totaled 108.98. This figure is higher than the first quarter equiavlent of 106.14. "These improvements are driven by the household income which is though to be increasing, and by inflation not influencing such optimitic outlooks," he said. AHMAD FIKRI
